It's a long way from Boca Raton to Los Angeles -- or, for that matter, to Denver, Dallas or New York.
But a recent expansion by Digital Risk LLC, a Maitland-based software firm, is making those cities seem a little less far apart from one another. Digital Risk, which makes risk-analysis software for mortgage providers, recently opened locations in all of those cities. Such a level of success is what entrepreneurs dream about as they go about their business planning.
Digital Risk's CEO said the company's expansion will add at least 150 jobs in the Boca Raton area by September and will add about 1,000 names to its payroll when all locations are considered. It currently employs 1,400 people.
Its annual sales are targeted to reach $100 million this year. Perhaps contrary to conventional wisdom, the mortgage and foreclosure crisis has actually been good for business because it has prompted mortgage providers to realize that they needed to start investigating applicants better and preparing more accurate projections for the performance of their existing mortgage portfolios.
Stories like the success of Digital Risk show that while entrepreneurs certainly need to prepare for the worst, they also need to prepare for the best, too. Digital Risk has had to hire so many workers it has overstuffed all four floors of its facility and has run out of parking space - a good problem to have, of course. A good business plan is comprehensive, and that means it covers both the good and the bad possibilities.
