The House of Mouse continues to be a major economic engine for the Orlando region. That fact has been underscored by Disney's recent announcement that its Fantasyland expansion will create an estimated 800 full-time, permanent jobs once it is all finished as of 2014. The $425 million expansion is the largest in the 40-year history of the Magic Kingdom and has also resulted in 700 or so temporary construction jobs as it is being built.
But one thing all business owners in South Florida need to remember is that Walt Disney, the now-deceased force behind the Disney empire, was not always a mogul. Just like the rest of us, he started his business career as an entrepreneur with big ideas and the work ethic to get them accomplished.
Today, big dreams still matter, but they aren't enough. Attracting investors, protecting intellectual property assets, negotiating contracts, building relationships with vendors and drafting sound employment and other policies takes a lot of work. Many entrepreneurs make sure they find a business and corporate attorney whom they can trust early on so that when issues arise (as they inevitably will), they know to whom they can turn.
That's a smart move because it would be very unfortunate if a lucrative business deal fell through or a costly and drawn-out lawsuit dragged your business down because not enough time was taken or attention paid to legal matters early on. It's never a bad idea to make sure that all T's are crossed and all I's are dotted.
