Fans of Taqueria del Sol, rejoice.
Florida's first franchise of the Georgia-based fast-casual Mexican chain will open in Orlando on Oct. 1.
In some ways, this is a sign of the times. Increasingly, customers have been turning to fast-casual places like Noodles & Co, Chipotle and Panera instead of going to traditional fast-food chains like McDonald's or Subway.
Analysts point out that fast-casual places offer a better atmosphere, with nice lighting, proper tables and ambience, and have menu options that are better-tasting and healthier than what consumers could get through the local drive-through. On top of it all, their price-points are not much higher than most fast-food places.
Taqueria del Sol is no exception to this fast-casual trend. The founder of the chain, who is also its head chef, has won two James Beard Foundation Awards of Excellence for his southwestern-themed menus. In 2007, Bon Appetit magazine selected Taquiera del Sol as its "Top American Restaurant."
The owners say they plan to open as many 11 more franchises throughout South and Central Florida over the next several years. The two men achieved success together with their 5 Guys Bugers and Five Restaurants (they have 17 throughout Florida), so it is safe to assume that they either know their way around a franchise agreement or regularly work with an attorney who does.
In some circumstances, a franchise represents a lucrative business opportunity, but it is crucial that you understand what you are agreeing to when you sign a franchise agreement. To that end, many people hire attorneys to help them with matters like this.
