A recent study ranked Florida among the top ten states with favorable business climates. Studies like this provide reassurance that the work we've put into making Florida a place where startup businesses can grow, big companies can thrive and employers and employees can find one another and forge productive partnerships is working.
Site Selection Publications ranked the top business climates by examining local taxes and then looking at local "corporate site selectors." Generally speaking, corporate site selectors are the things that make a given locale attractive for companies looking to relocate, expand or make an initial footprint.
The study put North Carolina, famed for its "Research Triangle" of Durham-Raleigh-Chapel Hill, as the top state for doing business. It has finished in the top ten rankings each year for the past 12 years.
Between North Carolina, at number one, and Florida, at number 10, are: Ohio, Texas, Georgia, Virginia, Alabama, Louisiana, Tennessee and South Carolina.
Whether a state is a good business environment depends on a lot of factors. Some are the government's responsibility and some are a result of a critical mass of big employers in the area. But there are myriad smaller things organizations, businesses and even individuals can do to make a community a positive business climate. In your opinion, is there anything we could do that we are not currently doing?
